Moscow. 2 June 2006. Over the five months of 2006, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" increased electricity generation year-on-year by 5.6% to 290.9 billion kWh from 307.3 billion kWh. During the period under review, energy consumption across Russia totalled 421.7 billion kWh, an increase of 4.5% from 403.6 billion kWh in the same period of 2005.
In January to March 2006, the output of RAO UESR thermal power plants amounted to 259.5 billion kWh, which represents an increase of 8.9% over the same period last year. The hydroelectric power plants generated 47.8 billion kWh, down 9.1% in year-on-year terms, which was due to the fact that the water inflow levels at the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama chain of HPPs were lower by an average of a quarter than in the previous years.
According to the most recent updates, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" generated 52.1 billion kWh of electricity in May 2006, up 6.3% compared to the same period last year. During the month, the hydropower plants of RAO "UES of Russia" generated 12.6 billion kWh, while the Company's thermal power plants produced 39.5 billion kWh. In May 2006, the country's electricity consumption grew 5.6% to 72.2 billion kWh from 68.4 billion kWh.
