Meeting between Alexey Miller and Syed Abdus Samad held

The Gazprom headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee and Syed Abdus Samad, State Minister and Executive Chairman of the Board of Investment of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Taking part in the meeting on behalf of Bangladesh were also Mashiur Rahman, Economic Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister; Mohammad Ziauddin, Ambassador-at-Large and Special Envoy of the Prime Minister and Hossain Monsur, Chairman of the Petrobangla Management Board. The Russian party was represented by Alexander Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Valery Gulev, Director General of Gazprom zarubezhneftegaz.

The delegation visited the Central Production and Dispatch Department, a key production unit of Gazprom.

The discussion centered on the possible areas of cooperation between Gazprom and the Republic of Bangladesh.

During the negotiations the parties agreed on establishing joint working groups of experts to elaborate the possible scenarios of cooperation, as well as on compiling a Memorandum of Understanding between Gazprom and Petrobangla (Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation).

Background:

The production sector plays an important role in the Bangladeshi economy. The annual production accounts for some 18 billion cubic meters gas consumed by power generating stations and fertilizer plants. Bangladesh’s proven gas reserves reach circa 400 billion cubic meters. The major fields are located in the eastern districts of the country – Comilla and Sylhet.

Petrobangla is a state-owned monopoly in the oil and gas industry of Bangladesh.
