Press release

OAO Novatek announces that its wholly-owned subsidiary, OOO Yurkharovneftegas, has recently completed and commissioned a new gas pipeline enabling the subsidiary to increase gas transportation up to 25 million cubic meters per day. The new pipeline section, covering 15.96 kilometers in length and 1220 in diameter, is a part of Novatek’s overall gas pipeline project to connect the Yurkharovskoye field with the Yamburg compressor station. Upon completion of this project Novatek will have the ability to transport up to 27 bcm of natural gas per year.

The pipeline used a unique “cold tapping” technology, provided by T.D.Williamson, Inc., an engineering company, to connect the field pipeline into Gazprom’s active 1400 millimeter trunk pipeline. The connection was performed without any interruption in gas transportation and was completed ahead of schedule. The work fully complies with the technical requirements imposed by Gazprom for access to the transport network and was carried out in detailed coordination with its subsidiaries – OOO Tyumentransgas, OOO Uraltransgas and OOO Gasnadzor.

According to T.D.Williamson, Inc., operating in Russia since 1985, it was the first time in the Yamal Region that the “cold tapping” technology was employed to connect a large-diameter field pipeline into the active trunk line while under pressure. Although the technology has already been used in Russia, it was previously used to only connect small-diameter field pipelines.

With the connection of the field pipeline to the Gazprom inter-system connector, OAO Novatek is the first independent gas producer to be involved in the extension of Gazprom’s transportation network, which may facilitate further cooperation between the two companies in this regard.

Upon completion of the first phase development at the Yurkharovskoye field this summer, the Company estimates gas volume delivered to the transportation system will increase to 9.2 bcm per year.
