Uralsvyazinform and Alcatel sign IN expansion agreement

Today, France’s telecom giant Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA; NYSE: ALA) and Uralsvyazinform (RTS and MICEX tickers: URSI/URSIP, ADR: UVYZY/UVYPY) inked an agreement to expand an intelligent network (IN) at a solemn ceremony dedicated to the 10th anniversary of cooperation between these two companies.

The installation of the first intelligent network platform in Russiawas made possible thanks to a joint project between Alcatel and Uralsvyazinform. It was successfully commissioned in Permin 1998. Under a new contract, Uralsvyazinform will be able to provide intelligent network services within the regions of its operations in 2004.

Alcatel will supply Uralsvyazinform with the best intelligent network solutions, based on Open Services Platform, higher appreciated by professionals. The Russian telecom carrier will use them to roll out an existing IN network in all regions where it operates. Consequently, Uralsvyazinform will be able to fully meet the soaring demand for IN services, including virtual cards, over-the-phone consulting and TV voting.

For more than 10 years Uralsvyazinform and Alcatel have been in cooperation to implement various advanced telecommunications technologies. The Russian telecom operator was pleased to support their partnership in expanding IN services throughout its coverage zone, i.e. eight regions of the Urals and Western Siberiawith a population of over 15.5 mln, Uralsvyazinform’s chief executive officer Vladimir Rybakin was reported as saying.

Johan Vanderplaetse, Alcatel’s CEO in Russia, pointed out that Uralsvyazinform is its strategic partner on the Russian telecom market. The French telecom giant is proud of its participation in new projects and announced its readiness to provide Uralsvyazinform with proven economic solutions to solidify its leadership position on the domestic telecommunications market.

Back in 1996 Uralsvyazinform and Alcatel signed a strategic partnership agreement. The agreement was extended in 2003 and reflects the latter’s plans to install advanced technologies and network telecom services at Uralsvyazinform. Over the past 10 years both companies have managed to implement over 40 projects worth over ?100 mln.
