Aeroflot

January 23, 2004

Aeroflot starts regular flights to Mumbai

From January 24, 2004, Aeroflot-Russian Airlines Company resumes regular flights (SU-565/566) Moscow- Mumbai-Moscow five times a week. All flights are to be from Sheremetyevo Airport (Terminal 2) by TU-214 that belongs to GTK Russia and leased by Aeroflot. The average flight time is 5.5 hours.

Departure from Moscow is on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays at 14.40 (Moscow time) and on Tuesdays and Thursdays – at 20.00 (Moscow time).

Return flights from Mumbai are on Tuesdays, Sundays and Mondays at 01.45 (local time) and on Wednesdays and Fridays – at 07.05 (local time).

In January 2004, Aeroflot and Air India signed bilateral code-sharing agreement (join use flight); within this agreement Aeroflot provides its partner with a number of seats on its flights.

Moscow-Mumbai-Moscow direct flight provides more opportunities for both airline companies carrying transit and transfer passengers on most Aeroflot flights from Moscow to cities of Russia and abroad.

Mumbai is the second city in India where Aeroflot Company makes flights to. In 2003 150,000 passengers were carried on Moscow- Delhi –Moscow flight that is 20% more than in 2002.

Today’s Mumbai (Bombay), the capital of Maharashtra state, has 15mln people. This is an important trade, industrial, financial center, the largest port in India where about 40% freight of foreign merchandise of the country comes through. It has the busiest airport in the country. There are head-quarters of the leading national monopolies and transnational corporations there. Today’s Mumbai is rapidly growing and flourishing city.

According to Aeroflot Director General Valery Okulov, making frequent regular flights to Mumbai is demonstration of the airline company’s strategy on establishing the efficient and extensive flight network. “Due to orientation toward perspective and profitable markets Aeroflot can grow in advanced rates”, Mr. Okulov stresses.
