COMSTAR built communication network for Surgut industrial zone

October 28 2008, Moscow, Tyumen. COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (OAO COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the largest integrated telecom services operator in Russia and the CIS announced that OAO “Tyumenneftegazsvyaz” (TNGS), a subsidiary of OAO COMSTAR-UTS in Uralsky Federal District provided modern high-quality communication services for the industrial zone of one of the largest oil producing cities, Surgut.

Strategically important facilities are situated at the territory of Eastern industrial region, they are: an OGK-2 generating company branch of Surgutskaya GRES-1 power plant, an OGK-4 branch of Surgutskaya GRES-2 of OAO “Tyumenenergo” providing electricity power to the Ural and Southern Federal Districts.

COMSTAR-UTS are the first operator to offer digital communication services for this territory. As a result of the job fulfilled, a new 20-km fiber optic communication network and data communication station was built. Today COMSTAR-UTS is connecting the largest industrial enterprises of Surgut, providing the services of digital telephony, broadband Internet access, and configuring virtual private networks (VPN).

TNGS Priobskoye branch Commercial Director, Aleksey Novikov gave the following comments for this event: “It was not by chance that our company has chosen Eastern industrial region as one of our first-priority backbone network development targets. This part of the city sees an intensive growth of the enterprises. For example, presently, E.ON, an international power producing integrated company started building two additional power generating units of Surgutskaya GRES-2 with a total power of 800 MW. As a result, large utility and civil engineering companies were set up which demand stringent requirements to communication services quality. Even now our customers in this region are such companies as E.ON integrated company, General Electric Company, Gama Power Systems, and building construction Metag Company. We are proud that such high-demand customers chosen our company as their communication service provider”.
