RUSAL announces changes to Bratsk smelter management

Moscow, March 22, 2005 — RUSAL, one of the world's leading aluminium producers, announced today changes in the company's management team, as a result of which Sergey Filippov, General Director of the Krasnoyarsk metallurgical plant, has been named Managing Director of the Bratsk smelter. He succeeds Vladimir Berstenev, who has resigned to pursue other business opportunities.

Sergey Filippov has more than 30 years experience in non-ferrous metallurgy. In the past eight years, he has held executive positions at leading Russian aluminium facilities. Under his management, Krasnoyarsk Metallurgical Works (KrAMZ) completed an upgrade of its casthouse, as well as modernization of its forging and extrusion capacities. As a result, in 2004, the plant's output increased 32% compared to 2003. Mr. Filippov‘s professional skills and leadership talent not only allowed him to achieve improved technical and economic indicators at KrAMZ, but also to introduce modern management techniques, having contributed to creation of a strong management team at the plant and provided for well coordinated operation of its staff.

At Bratsk Aluminium Smelter, Mr. Filippov will continue implementation of current projects, complete the preparation of the plant for a scaled modernization, scheduled to start in 2006, and ensure its successful completion.

Vladimir Berstenev has been Managing Director at the Bratsk smelter since June 2002. Under his management, a series of projects were completed allowing the plant to increase its output, including a transition to dry anode technology, introduction and modernization of the automated process control system, modernization of the casthouse and expansion of the range of value-added products.
