MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

April 12, 2004

AO MOSENERGO's GRES-3 celebrates the 90th anniversary

Electrogorsk

In April 2004, one of the first electric power stations in the Moscow region-GRES-3 named after Robert Classon—celebrates its 90th anniversary.

In March 1914, the power station generated the first electricity on an industrial scale. As of today, the installed capacity of GRES-3 is more than 627 MWt. It generates around 155 kWt-h of electricity and 444,000 GCal of heat. There are 780 high-class specialists at the plant who make a significant contribution to the reliability and stability of AO MOSENERGO's operation.

Throughout many years the plant was not only the source of power but also a testing site for new technologies. In early 1980s, GRES-3 was the first power station to receive gas turbines in the Moscow region. In 1990, GRES-3 was the first in Russia to operate on a 150MWt gas turbine. In December 2000, GRES-3 launched the first gas turbine unit (GTU-TEZ) that makes the plant of the most ecologically clean station in Russia. Its exhausts are considerably cleaner compared to similar boiler plants.

«Ninety years is long time,» the director of GRES-3 Yevgeny Mikheev says. «Although the company was the most advanced one in Russia and even in Europe, we lived through difficult times,» he says. «In 1970s they suggested we close the plant, however we won thanks to the firm and professional team.»

The availability of the modern technical base and rich production experience allows GRES-3 to remain a testing ground for AO MOSENERGO. In the near future the Company plans to increase the productivity of gas turbine units. The plan of upgrades until 2015 makes it possible for the company to install new more efficient equipment.
