Norilsk Nickel MMC

March 4, 2004

MMC Norilsk Nickel collective agreement extended to 2007

At a conference of the MMC Norilsk Nickel workers’ collective that took place on March 4 in Norilsk, it was decided to extend the Collective Agreement that had been agreed between workers and employers in 2001 by a period of three years (to May 25, 2007).

Those attending the conference acknowledged that in 2003, as in previous years, the Collective Agreement for 2001 – 2004 had been fulfilled by both the workers and the employers. Representatives of the workers’ collective also approved and accepted MMC Norilsk Nickel’s Plan for Social and Economic Development to the year 2015.

A new Collective Agreement Commission was formed at the conference, which will start work on fine tuning the terms of the Agreement by means of introducing amendments and additions to the statutes it contains. The new commission is comprised of representatives of both workers and employers.

The drafting of the Plan for Social and Economic Development was set in motion in accordance with a decision made by the MMC Norilsk Nickel Workers’ Collective in March 2003, and was discussed by the members of collectives at Norilsk Nickel’s Polar division between April 2003 and February 2004.

“The decision of the conference and the extension of the Collective Agreement bear witness to the company’s commitment to the highest standards of social responsibility and relations between workers and employers in Russia today”, Victor Tomenko, director of the MMC Norilsk Nickel’s Polar division said.

According to Ms Golodets, the Deputy General Director of the MMC Norilsk Nickel, in ratifying the Plan for Social and Economic Development, the Company has made a new step forward in the development of social and labour relations. MMC Norilsk Nickel was the first Russian company to define its principles of development in this area as far forward as 2015, and has laid the foundations for stability and the confidence of its workforce. “This is our professional and corporate success”, she says.
