2003 results of "UTK" PJSC telecom network development

"Southern Telecommunications Company" PJSC is licensed to provide telecom services in the territory of the Southern federal district  using communication networks of the companies merged in "UTK" PJSC as branches.

 

Local public telephone networks

 

According to 2003 performance results average telephone density in "UTK" PJSC (taking into consideration connected private branch exchanges ) is 20,4 telephones per 100 inhabitants including 25,6  telephones per 100 inhabitants - in urban telephone network and 12,3 telephones per 100 inhabitants – in rural telephone network. At the beginning of 2004 number of unsatisfied applications for telephone installation was 383,1 thousand. "UTK" PJSC branch “Rostovelectrosvyaz” has the lowest level of telephone density (16,9 telephones per 100 inhabitants).

In 2003 532.5 thousand telephone lines were put into operation in "UTK" PJSC network , 513,3 thousand of them being digital. As a result, installed capacity of "UTK" PJSC local telephone network at the beginning of 2004 stood at 3837.85 thousand lines. Level of network digitization is 49.08% including 57,4% - in urban TN and 20,9% - in rural TN. Share of equipped capacity is 94,4%  including 95,1% - in urban TN and 92,1% - in rural TN.

Number of basic telephones in 2003 rose by 296.9 thousand sets making 178.9% of their increase in 2002. Thus, according to 2003 results "UTK" PJSC operates now 3 567.33 thousand basic telephone sets including 2 705.28 thousand sets - in urban TN and 862.05 thousand sets - in rural TN.

"UTK" PJSC approved the plan of introduction of time-based billing system of local calls (SPUS) for 2003-2004 providing for increase of number capacity of telephone exchanges equipped with the billing system equipment by 1 045.8 thousand lines. In 2003 total installed capacity of "UTK" PJSC  telephone exchanges equipped with the billing system equipment increased by 822.3 lines to 2 473.6 thousand lines. SPUS-equipped installed capacity being in revenue service stands at 256.7 thousand lines.

According to 2003 results total number of "UTK" PJSC  pay stations reached 24.4 thousand stations, 30% of them using universal telephone pre-paid card (ETK).

Share of UTK" PJSC  pay stations using universal telephone pre-paid card (ETK) is to be increased to 60% by the end of 2004. "UTK" PJSC specialized branch “Yugtaxofon” is responsible for development of this kind of business, in addition to service of pay stations its specialists conclude contracts on delivery of payphone equipment and distribute it among the branches.

 

 International, domestic long-distance and inter-zonal public telephone networks

 

At present 12 digital Automatic long-distance telephone exchanges of "UTK" PJSC with total installed capacity of 105.45 ths channels operate in 12 cities of SFD. In 2003 number of outgoing automatic channels increased to 3.54 ths channels. Automatic long-distance telephone exchange with capacity of 7.56 ths channels was put into service in Volgograd and Automatic long-distance telephone exchange with capacity of 1.11 ths channels was put into operation in Elista.

Development of inter-zonal primary network makes it possible to satisfy in full the growing needs of customers in traditional and new telecom services (ISDN, data transfer and Internet). "UTK" PJSC policy of transportation network development is based on using fiber-optic telecom lines and SDH(synchronous digital hierarchy) data transfer systems.

In 2003 length of long-distance telephone channels increased by 4 384.95 ths ch/km to 13 038.34 ths ch/km including those of digital data transfer systems – by 4 481.11 ths ch/km to 10 732.35 ths ch/km or 82.3% of their total length.

In 2003 length of fiber-optic lines (FOL) in "UTK" PJSC inter-zonal networks increased by 1 384.8km to 6 101.8 km as at the beginning of 2004. Total length of inter-zonal communication lines stands at 22 773.2 km. Growth of FOL length was provided mainly by building and putting into operation the following communication facilities: FOL 598.5 km long in Krasnodar Territory, FOL 292.7 km long in Rostov Region, FOL 224.5 km long in Volgograd Region, FOL 75.8 km long in Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, FOL 65 km long in Karachaevo-Cherkessian Republic, FOL 53 km long in Stavropol Territory and others.
