Gipronickel institute to invest one million dollars in re-equipping during 2004

The Gipronickel Institute, a subsidiary of MMC Norilsk Nickel based in St. Petersburg, is to invest more than US $1 million in re-equipping its facilities during 2004. This sum of money has been allocated for the renewal of plant machinery and other equipment, pilot plant and computers. Among the suppliers of the new equipment will be such well-known manufacturers as Setaram, Leco and PGT.

Valeri Starykh, the head of the Gipronickel Institute's marketing and information section, makes the point that the volume of work undertaken by the institute has increased six-fold since 1999, and that any further growth would be restrained by its present production capabilities. “ Investment in re-equipment will allow us to expand our scientific base, and will make it possible for us to develop new technologies, ” he says.

Additional information

More than eighty enterprises and facilities engaged in the area of non-ferrous metallurgy have been constructed as part of ongoing schemes for the development of MMC Norilsk Nickel's subdivisions that deal more specifically in the fields of nickel and cobalt, aluminium, tungsten and molybdenum, as well as mercury and antimonides. Since 1999, the volume of scientific work undertaken by the Gipronickel Institute has grown six-fold. The institute's main clients are the enterprises run by MMC Norilsk Nickel itself, AK Alrosa, Kazakhstan Aluminium, Karelski Okatysh, and Kazakhmys.
