IRKUT Corporation, a leader in the Russian aerospace sector today expressed its pleasure at the success of its President, Mr. Alexei Fedorov, in the annual Aviation Week & Space Technology awards. As part of these awards, which are among the most prestigious in the aerospace industry, Mr. Fedorov was named as a laureate in the Aeronautics and Propulsion category.

Mr. Fedorov is the only Russian manager to be so honoured this year. Speaking today, he said "It is a great privilege to receive this award. I accept it on behalf of all the management and staff of IRKUT Corporation, who have worked so hard to make IRKUT the leader in Russian aerospace and one of the leaders in the industry globally".

Alexei Fedorov was born in Ulan-Ude in 1952. He graduated from Irkutsk Polytechnic University as a mechanical engineer in aircraft building and started his career as a design engineer in Irkutsk Aviation Industrial Association (the main production facilities of IRKUT Corporation) in 1974. In 1989 he was appointed General Director/General Designer of Irkutsk Aviation Industrial Association.

Having served as President of Sukhoi Corporation in 1997-1998, he returned to Irkutsk AIA in November 1998 as President. Mr Fedorov has been one of the main individuals responsible for the formation of IRKUT Corporation in 2002 as a market-orientated military and civil aerospace group.
