Moscow. 23 January 2004. In 2003, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" Holding generated electricity 635.8 TWh, a 3% increase compared to 2002. The electricity consumption in Russia was 888.2 TWh, which is 1.4% higher than the anticipated consumption, and 2.9% above the last year's figures.

The hydroelectric plants of RAO UES generated 115.2 TWh of electricity, a 1.9% increase from 2002, despite the fact that in the first half of 2003 the rate of stream flow in the rivers was lower than the long-term annual average for the areas where the main HPPs are located. The thermal power plants (TPPs) of RAO UES had to provide most of the increase in electricity generation: in 2003, the TPPs generated 520.6 TWh, up 3.2% from 2002. RAO UES has been able to ensure utilization of the most efficient TPPs of the Holding.

The heat supply by RAO UES entities in 2003 totalled 468.8 million Gcal, a decrease of 0.2% compared to 2002. Such reduction in the heat supply was due to the fact that in October 2003, the outdoor temperature throughout Russia was 2.7° C below the long-term average.

In 2003, the entities of RAO "UES of Russia" Holding have been able to maintain the prescribed frequency of electric current (50 Hz) 100% of calendar time.
