MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

January 22, 2004

AO MOSENERGO reviewed safety measures at its divisions in 2003

Yeterday, heads of safety departments of AO MOSENERGO's divisions met at the Power Specialists' Center to sum up the results of 2003 and set goals for 2004. The meeting was attended by representatives from RAO UES, Mosgorenergonadzor, the Municipal and Regional Committees of Electroprofsoyuz, as well as all directors of AO MOSENERGO's divisions and heads of safety departments.

The power sector is a hazardous industry; therefore, the Company traditionally focuses on labor safety. AO MOSENERGO's achievements are illustrated by lower injury levels. In 1990, there were 100 accidents at AO MOSENERGO's facilities, while in 2003, the number of such accidents was reduced to 11. In 2003, 52 out of 60 AO MOSENERGO's branches operate without accidents. A number of companies have managed to operate without incident for several years. For example, GRES-3 and GRES-4 had no accidents for the last 12 years. There were no accidents at CHP-6 for the last 10 years. In total, the accident ratio at AO MOSENERGO was 3 times lower than at RAO UES last year.

In 2003, all AO MOSENERGO's branches worked to enhance labor safety with respect to equipment handling. The Company has organized seven safety team training sessions. The Company also held training sessions on providing first aid to accident victims. These sessions were attended by employees from 13 divisions. The Company also held monthly Safety Days, trying to prevent injuries at its facilities.

Last year, the general director of AO MOSENERGO Arkady Yevstafyev approved the new system for labor safety that stipulated key priorities for 2004. The main goal for AO MOSENERGO's divisions was to minimize the number of injuries.

Speaking at the meeting, the deputy chief engineer for safety Sergei Pronin said: «Compared to other Russian power companies and total RAO UES statistics, AO MOSENERGO shows good results in the area of labor safety but we will not stop at that. Our goal is to fully exclude injuries."
