November 12, 2004 North-West Telecom put into operation a digital telephone exchange, SI-2000, in Vidyayevo. The capacity of the telephone exchange is 1856 lines, the possibility of expanding it according to the requirements of subscribers having been provided for.

Residents of the military town, which has become notorious after the tragedy with the Kursk atomic submarine, had been serviced by the step-by-step telephone exchange made in 1972.

Vyacheslav Gradov, Deputy head of the Administration, who was present at the telephone exchange opening ceremony, emphasized the importance of the event for the administrative territorial settlement of Vidyayevo, which has a restricted-access status. He noted that now residents of the military town will be able to use an entire range of extra services provided by the digital telephone exchange, not only high quality telephone communication and access to the Internet.

With the start-up of the new telephone exchange, Vidyayevo has extended the list of Murmansk Oblast settlements with the 100% digitalization.
