On 11-15th October 2004 the General Manager of OJSC North-West Telecom Vladimir Akulich visited Japan in the framework of a visit of the delegation of the Governor of St. Petersburg dedicated to the 25th anniversary of establishing twin city relations between Osaka and St. Petersburg. 

Besides the participation in all official events, in the course of the trip to Tokyo Vladimir Akulich made a contract with NEC Corporation for the delivery of telecommunication equipment worth of RUR 144 million.    

NEC Corporation will deliver to OJSC North-West Telecom SDH equipment for the construction of the St. Petersburg transport network. The delivery and equipment installation start are to take place late in 2004.

The construction of the St. Petersburg transport network in 2004-2005 will make it possible to maintain the accelerated development and network upgrading rate, to meet the demand of the residents of St. Petersburg for up-to-date telecommunication services and to do away with the telephone installation queue.     

NEC Corporation is among the major suppliers of telecommunication equipment of OJSC North-West Telecom.   The signing of the contract for the delivery of SDH equipment is in line with the technical policy of NWT, which is aimed at creating an up-to-date telecommunication infrastructure ensuring a reduction of operation costs, improvement of quality and an increase of the volume of services provided.
