MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

October 25, 2004

MOSENERGO to take part in the exhibition “Ecology in the Energy Sector”

On 26-29 October, in Moscow at the All-Russian Exhibition Center a specialized exhibition will take place on “Ecology in the Energy Sector.” During this event, Mosenergo will demonstrate technologies that are applied by the branches of the company in order to improve the ecology of the Moscow region.

The exhibition has been organized by the Department of the Scientific and Technical Development Policy of RAO UES and the Center for Energy Efficiency of Russia. The participants will include power companies from Russia, CIS and other countries that will present power-saving and environmental protection equipment. A seminar will also be held within the frame work of the exhibition.

The first section of Mosenergo’s exhibits is dedicated to equipment that helps to reduce the technical impact on the water basin of the Moscow region. For example, during the last several years, Mosenergo’s CHPs have introduced highly efficient means for protecting fish. These technologies help minimize the damage to the fish as a result of the water use for technical purposes at CHPs. According to checks made by specialists from the State Fishing Committee, the fish protection equipment both meet and in many aspects exceed the existing ecological standards. In addition, cavitation equipment that is used by the branches of the company makes it possible to safeguard the water basin from oil products and other pollutants and rational use water resources of the Moscow region.

In the second section Mosenergo will show technologies that are used by the company in order to protect the aerial basin. Lately, Mosenergo has managed to considerably reduce air pollution through upgrading burners I CHP boilers. Computer models for water boiler operations make it possible to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions as much as possible.

Environmental protection is a priority target at Mosenergo. During the last decade the company has never exceeded the existing ecological norms. Only in 2003, it reduced the consumption of water by 91.6 m m3 from surface sources and by more than 0.5 m m3 from municipal lines. As a result, the amount of the water that is discharged by the electric stations of Mosenergo has been reduced by 104.7 m m3. Last year, the content of oil product in the waste water has been reduced by 7%, chlorides-by 16% and sulphates-by 7%. During nine months of 2004, the total amount of emissions from all Mosenergo’s stations dropped by almost 11.5% and at Moscow CHPs-by more than 25%.
