A solemn meeting took place at the President Hotel devoted to the 85th anniversary of Boris Scherbina, one of the organizers of the fuel and energy complex of Russia. Gazprom’s delegation, which visited the meeting to honor the memory of a distinguished statesman and the Hero of the Socialist Labor, was headed by Alexander Ananenkov, the Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom.

The participants of the meeting gave a high appreciation to the contribution of Boris Scherbina in development of qualitatively new approach to pipeline construction and fields’ development, implementation of shift team and modulus-type construction in conditions of the Extreme North. The total length of the gas mains has doubled during 11 years when Boris Scherbina was the Minister of the oil and gas industry facilities construction of the USSR; the rated of the oil and gas fields construction has increased several times, which enabled the country to become the world leader in oil and gas production.

On the same day a ceremony of unveiling the monument to Boris Scherbina was held in Ukhta; the ceremony was attended by hundreds of town-dwellers, by the managers and employees of Severgazprom, representatives of the regional Administration.

Reference:

Boris Yevdokimovich Scherbina was born on 5 October, 1919. Graduated the Kharkov institute of the railway engineers in 1942. Since 1942 to 1973 hold high posts in the Komsomol and the CPSU. In 1973 he was appointed the Minister of the oil and gas industry facilities construction of the USSR, in 1984 – 1989 – the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. Since 1986 – the Chairman of the Committee for liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Boris Yevdokimovich Scherbina passed away on 22 August, 1991at the age of 71.
