ROSSETI

February 15, 2018

At the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi the company ROSSETI has presented the strategy for building a digital network in Russia until 2030

In Sochi, during the Russian Investment Forum a Congress and Exhibition venue "Territory of ROSSETI" has been inaugurated. It will become a center for discussions on the outlooks and global trends in modern "smart energy" development.

At the plenary session, that took place right after the inauguration ceremony, the ROSSETI Director General Pavel Livinsky officially presented the Development Strategy Project of a "digital" power grid in Russia until 2030.

The leader of ROSSETI highlighted that the presented project with the costs of 1.3 billion of Rubles, in current prices, is self-sustaining within 14 years and does not require any additional increase of the grid fee, as the digital energy network makes it possible to increase effectiveness and to receive a number of the positive internal effects.

Pavel Livinsky noted that digitalization of the energy network is not a matter of fashion, but a demand of our times associated among other things with expansion of the distributed generation around the world, microgrids building, development of power accumulators and renewable energy sources, which the consumer can already install and can even produce energy.

"In the future the large grid will be only required in megalopolises and for large industries. Electric network grid should be ready for this, it is necessary to increase effectiveness and correspond to the consumer's future requirements," the top manager of the grid company said.

According to Pavel Livinsky, grid digitalization makes it possible for ROSSETI Group to increase greatly the operational and financial results, and, therefore, to become more interesting for the investors and to increase capitalization.

It is crucial to resolve some issues in order to reach the set goal. First of all, it is essential to gain the right for the longterm tariff agreements and installation of the smart meters at the balance inventory limit. At the same time, it is necessary to start production of the modern equipment, development of the software, as well as the training of new personnel which will be ready to work at the new digital grid network in Russia.

"Digitalization will produce an effect and will be successful only if it is implemented with an all-out and complex approach, it means not in pieces but as a whole project", Pavel Levinsky said.

Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Vladislav Kravchenko supported the idea of building "smart" grids in Russia, and emphasized that the Ministry is ready to collaborate with ROSSETI on Project costs evaluation and regulations that should help to realize the presented plan and contribute in the sector development as a whole.

Alexander Starchenko, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Energy Consumer Association, highlighted that this is the first self-sustaining proposal of ROSSETI, that foresees return on investment, he has ever seen, and "this is definitely a step in the right direction. I'm sure that once the proposed strategy is implemented, the results will be surprising for everybody, even for its initiators."
