MTS’ multimedia cloud service Omlet.ru shortlisted for coveted 2011 Meffys Award

Moscow, Russian Federation – Mobile TeleSystems OJSC (“MTS” or "the Company" – NYSE: MBT), the leading telecommunications provider in Russia and the CIS, today announced its pioneering multimedia cloud service, Omlet.ru, has been shortlisted for the coveted global 2011 Meffys Awards under the “Best Technology Innovation” category.

Launched in September 2009, Omlet.ru is the first Russian website offering the ability to purchase and download or stream multimedia content legally. A unique multimedia service, Omlet.ru enables users to purchase or rent movies and music as well as store multimedia content in the cloud, and stream it to devices including PC or Mac computers, smartphones, set-top boxes and TV-sets. By leveraging cloud technology, content is always made available and users are able to watch a movie on one device, pause it, and resume watching on a different device. Omlet.ru brings around 2,000 local and international movies and 4,000 TV series episodes to Russian consumers, some of them exclusively available at Omlet.ru. Under agreements with major Hollywood studios, users can watch their favorite classics and enjoy the latest blockbuster movies.

“Meffys is the most established global awards in the mobile media industry and we are honored to have been shortlisted as one of the most innovative companies in the industry,” said Inna Shalyto, MTS Director for Innovative Media Products Development. “Omlet.ru received a Meffy’s award in 2010 and we are delighted that it is once again shortlisted this year as it is testament to the tremendous transformation and success of Omlet.ru over the year.”

This award recognizes innovation which overcomes existing technological barriers or uses advanced technology to drive the increased use of mobile content and commerce. MTS won the 2010 Meffys Award in the “Cross-Platform Technology” category for Omlet.ru and in 2009 the Company won the Meffys Award in the “Search & Discovery” category for the MTS Super Search, Russia’s first advanced search solution.
