Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has received a successful supervisory audit of its environmental management system by meeting the requirements of a new version of the international standard ISO 14001.

Following the assessment, specialists representing the authoritative international certification body TÜV NORD CERT (Germany) confirmed that the system entirely meets the requirements of the above standard and shows a decrease in the technogenic impact on the surrounding environment.

13 subdivisions of the plant participated in the audit, including the departments of the mining, coke and by-product shops, the departments of the chief metallurgist, the chief distributor, and the chief power engineer, the department of railway transport, as well as functional structural departments.

The environmental management system has been successfully operating at the mill since 2002.

In September 2015, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) adopted a new version of the international standard ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental management systems -- Requirements with guidance for use). MMK successfully passed the certification audit for compliance to the requirements of this version of the standard in 2016, obtaining as a result a new certificate of compliance.

The recent supervisory audit was carried out with a comprehensive scope; no inconsistencies were uncovered over the course of the assessment.
