First Turonian gas fed into UGSS from Yuzhno-Russkoye field

Today a trial dual well was put into pilot operation at the Yuzhno-Russkoye oil and gas field, and the first Turonian gas was produced to be fed into the Russian Unified Gas Supply System (UGSS). The well flow rate is 200 thousand cubic meters per day. The well launch became the first attempt of Gazprom Group to produce Turonian gas.

The outcomes of the well operation let determine the potential for further exploration, industrial development and production of Turonian gas.

“Producing gas from the Turonian deposits requires the application of innovative technological solutions. We are convinced that the development of these deposits at the Yuzhno-Russkoye field will be successful,” said Stanislav Tsygankov, Director General of Severneftegazprom .

Background

Severneftegazprom holds the license for hydrocarbons exploration, development and production in the Yuzhno-Russkoye oil and gas field located in the Krasnoselkupsky District of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. ABC1+C2 natural gas reserves of the field exceed 1 trillion cubic meters. In August 2009 the Yuzhno-Russkoye field reached its annual design capacity of 25 billion cubic meters one year ahead of schedule.

Severneftegazprom has the following shareholding structure: Gazprom (holds the majority stake), BASF and E.ON.

The Turonian deposits constitute the second important gas reserves of the Yuzhno-Russkoye field, laying at the depth from 810 to 840 meters. They feature the discontinuity and variability of the lithological composition, low reservoir permeability. Their exploration is mainly complicated by working at the temperatures close to subzero.

The Turonian deposits in the Yuzhno-Russkoye field are estimated at over 300 billion cubic meters.
