Gazprom hosts meeting of Coordinating Committee for liquefied and compressed gas production and maritime transportation

Gazprom’s Headquarters hosted today a meeting of the Coordinating Committee for liquefied and compressed natural gas (LNG and CNG) production and maritime transportation. Presided by Alexander Ananenkov, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee and Head of said Coordinating Committee, the meeting was attended by heads and experts of Gazprom’s core business departments and subsidiaries.

The Coordinating Committee addressed issues related to the development of promising projects on Russian LNG and CNG sea-borne transportation to remote markets. The parties pointed out that Gazprom’s divisions and affiliates had conducted a substantial scope of analytical and marketing survey on the matter.

The Coordinating Committee deliberated on and ratified principle results and conclusions summed up from the Investment Plan on Russian LNG and CNG ship-borne trade in remote markets. Gazprom’s core business units received instructions to draft the Technical Tasks and Investment Substantiations Projects targeted at LNG and CNG supplies to the USA and North Europe & Asia Pacific, respectively.

Reference:

The global gas consumption development trend testifies on the need to comprehensively explore the liquefied and compressed natural gas industry. In addition to the conventional transmission by pipeline, LNG and CNG can be transported by ship, which makes it possible to ensure a relative mobility of deliveries to consumers and adapt to changing conditions. At the same time, not only shipment volumes but also LNG and CNG carrier routes can be changed promtly.

The 1st meeting of the Coordinating Committee for liquefied and compressed natural gas production and maritime transportation took place 2 October 2003. The Coordinating Committee is largely centered on developing Gazprom’s corporate strategy in LNG and CNG trade.

The next Coordinating Committee meeting is slated for August 2004.
