International Gas Transmission Consortium members sum up interim results of preinvestment study

Kiev hosted yesterday an extended Meeting of the members of the International Consortium for the Ukraine's Gas Transmission System Management and Development.

Russia was represented at the Meeting by Viktor Khristenko, the RF Industry and Energy Minister as well as by Alexander Ryazanov and Yuri Komarov, Deputy Chairmen of Gazprom's Management Committee.

Yuri Boiko, Naftogaz of Ukraine's Board Chairman took part in the Meeting on behalf of the Ukraine.

The Meeting debated the International Gas Transmission Consortium's implementation of the preinvestment phase and outlined paramount measures to be taken for finalizing this stage within a predetermined period before 31 August 2004.

At the same time, the Meeting summed up interim results of the preinvestment stage implemented by the Consortium, which involves the Engineering and Production Company VNIPITRANSGAZ's research&development and feasibility studies of the Bogorodchany - Uzhgorod gas pipeline section construction.

The International Gas Transmission Consortium resolved to fix before 23 June 2004 the Bogorodchany - Uzhgorod gas pipeline route, to finalize before 25 June 2004 a comparative feasibility analysis of using either 1,220 or 1,420mm pipes for the Bogorodchany - Uzhgorod gas pipeline construction as well as to update legal documents on tender-related proceedings and to form a Tender Committee.

Ultimately, the parties addressed the issue of drafting a new Intergovernmental Agreement, taking into account the intensified strategic cooperation between Russia and the Ukraine in the gas business.
