June 9, 2004

Uralkali is declared one of the best enterprises of the chemical and petrochemical industry of the Kama Region

At a ceremony held in Perm awards were presented to the winners of the competition "Industrial Leader of the Kama Region - 2003." Uralkali received a diploma in the category "Chemical and Petrochemical Industry" for the business efficiency, the high level of social protection of the personnel and the contribution to the development of the region.

The competition "Industrial Leader of the Kama Region - 2003" was organized by the administration of the Perm Region together with the regional trade union council and the COOPERATION non-commercial partnership. More than 60 enterprises of the Perm Region took part in the competition. Diplomas were presented to the winners by Acting Governor of the Perm Region Oleg Chirkunov, his deputy and Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Perm Region Nikolai Devyatkin and Chairman of the Regional Trade Union Council Boris Pozharsky. In his welcoming address Oleg Chirkunov thanked the participants in the competition for successful work and promised that the administration of the Region would assist the leading enterprises in their further development.

"Today's award is a well deserved appreciation of the work of the entire collective," said Sergei Dyakov, Technical Director of OAO Uralkali. "The status of a leader obliges us to hold to the positions we have achieved, march forward and better ourselves. The stable work of Uralkali makes a weighty contribution to the development of the region, to strengthening the Russian economy. That is why in the future, too, we intend to hold high the fame of the Perm chemical workers both on the domestic market and outside Russia."

Owing to the effective work of Uralkali, the production of potassium chloride in 2003 reached 4.4 million tons, an increase of 8.4% over 2002. The pretax profit of the company amounted to 1,270,300,000 rubles. The average wage of Uralkali workers grew by 18.8% compared to 2002 (from 6062 to 7199 rubles). In 2003, Uralkali paid 1,308,886,000 rubles in taxes and levies to budgets of various levels, which is 7% more than in 2002.

This is the second time the company becomes a winner in the competition "Industrial Leader of the Kama region." Uralkali was also among the best enterprises of the Perm Region in 2002.
