Meeting of S.M. Vainshtock with Deputy Secretary McSlarrow

On 8 June, President of Transneft S.M. Vainshtock met with US Deputy Secretary of Energy Kyle McSlarrow who is visiting Russia. The meeting was held at OAO AK Transneft’s office.
Meeting that was attended by US Ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow, was held as the continuation to the dialog between Transneft and US Department of Energy and was devoted to the issues of further cooperation in export potential of Russian Federation.
Upon request of the American side Dr Vainshtock had familiarized Mr. McSlarrow with company’s operation and projects of modernization and expansion of Russian oil pipeline system. Special interest of the Deputy Secretary was shown to the project Eastern Siberia – Pacific Ocean developed by the company and a role of this project in the development of the hydrocarbon resources of Siberia and Far East, as well as to the prospective of the new oil pipeline route promotion Western Siberia, Barents Sea. Transneft’s professionals had reported about their efforts to increase production capacities of the Baltic Pipeline System and Specialized Sea Terminal in Primorsk, and about cooperation with Turkish side on development of new route bypassing Bosporus and Dardanelle straits.
During the communication on the form of cooperation between Transneft and the US Department of Energy, Mr. Kyle McSlarrow had confirmed the willingness of the American party to contribute to the realization of the Northern Route for Russian Crude export project. In particular issues of experience exchange for construction of pipelines in permafrost conditions were discussed.
Mr McSlarrow had passed to Dr Vainshtock the official invitation from the US Department of Energy to visit the United States, to get acquainted with Alaska oil pipeline operating in permafrost condition as well as to visit deep sea terminals in Golf of Mexico where Russian crude can be accepted if the Northern project is to be brought to life.
Dr. Simon Vainshtock had stressed that Energy dialog and active part in the process of Ambassador Vershbow is significantly contributing to better understanding and setting the framework for mutual cooperation between Transneft and US Department of Energy.
