Russian Railways Inc. is ready to place an order with KAMAZ Inc. for production of 5 000 per year of advanced universal freight railway vans.

Negotiations between KAMAZ Inc. and Department of Transportations of RF represented by various companies are taking place for several years already. And in 2003 after the meeting of Mintimer Shaimiev, President of Tatarstan republic, and Gennady Fadeev, President of Russian Railways Inc. it was agreed to expand cooperation of Russian railways, KAMAZ Inc. and vehicle manufacturers of Tatarstan.

Tatarstan is interested in expanding of its automobile industry and metallurgy as exactly these fields of economics are well developed and capable to meet the needs of the Russian Railways Inc.

Already today KAMAZ Inc. can offer its partner diversified products and services. Russian Railways Inc. is interested in powering its trains with a KAMAZ engine, which is complying with EURO-3 emission level. Experience of KAMAZ-Metallurgy can be properly applied in future projects of this company. Moreover, as Russia today practically doesn’t produce carriages for freight cars that meet current standards, KAMAZ Inc.’s production facilities, now mothballed, might help to solve this problem too. Engineering backing of the both of these companies ensures a short lead-time while materialization of this complex program.

The parties have signed a Protocol, which in detail describes a program of cooperation, including production of spare parts for movable parts of railroad vans. This means that KAMAZ has acquired a new powerful corporate customer.

Russian Railways Inc. undertakes to place a long-term order for production of up to 2000 - 5000 universal type freight cars while KAMAZ Inc. in its turn is to develop a stage by stage plan of their full production cycle. It also undertakes to produce annually 100 000 units min. of casting and forged blanks for railroad fright cars and spare parts for them. In the Q4 of 2004 KAMAZ Inc. will launch production of wear resistant components for modernization of carriages of fright cars.
