February, 1998 - LUKOIL President Vagit Alekperov in Moscow met on January 30 with Alexy II, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to discuss cooperation between LUKOIL and the Russian Orthodox Church in ensuring the spiritual and moral development of society.

Alekperov invited the Patriarch to visit the Western Siberian city of Kagalym, where one of the company's largest oil enterprises is located.

Patriarch Alexy II gave his preliminary consent to visit Kagalym on June 20 and 21, 1998.
