COMSTAR launches Eurosport and Eurosport 2 channels in its regional cable TV network

February 11, 2009, Moscow: COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading operator of integrated telecom services in Russia and the CIS, announces addition of new sports TV channels – Eurosport and Eurosport 2 – to the cable TV packages of COMSTAR-Regions (a 100% subsidiary of COMSTAR-UTS). COMSTAR-Regions and Eurosport SA signed a respective agreement in January 2010.

Eurosport and Eurosport 2, ranking among the most popular global sports TV channels, will be available for subscribers of COMSTAR-Regions’ cable TV base package in 40 Russian towns*. The new channels will be included in the TV line-up step by step.

Eurosport is the leading European sports channel. It mainly broadcasts sports programs and live matches, also covering the results of Russian, European and world cups in various sports. The channel’s audience is about 240 million viewers in 54 countries all over the world. It broadcasts in Russian.

Eurosport 2 is a European sports channel which differs from Eurosport, first of all, in that it broadcasts original, youth and extreme sports – squash, rugby sevens, snowboarding, badminton and other competitions being among them. The channel offers live shows and programs about traditional sports complementing Europsport’s programs. It broadcasts 24 hours a day in Russian.

Viktor Koresh, COMSTAR-Regions’ General Director, commented on the addition of the new channels in the company’s TV line-up: “Last year we managed to significantly improve the attractiveness of our TV packages by broadcasting top ranked channels and we continue moving forward actively in this direction. The year of 2010 is the year of big sports competitions, and we strive to make the most interesting sports channels available for our subscribers. The addition of the two world-leading sports channels to our line-up is a gift to supporters before the Olympic Games in Vancouver and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.”

Jean-Thierry Augustin, Executive Director for Distribution and Development of Eurosport SA, remarked: “We are glad to have come to agreement with COMSTAR-Regions, whose new content policy allowed us to consider the interests of both parties and to offer millions of subscribers the chance to follow the largest sports events on the world-best channels.”
