JSC Atomenergoprom will unite industry’s design institutes on the basis of JSC GSPI (State Specialized Design Institute)

The decision of the sole shareholder represented by JSC Atomenergoprom OJSC Novosibirsky VNIPIET, JSC Uralsky Design and Survey Institute VNIPIET, JSC Krasnoyarsky Design and Survey Institute VNIPIET in the form of taking over by JSC GSPI (State Specialized Design Institute, Moscow).

These corporate changes are conducted within the framework of restructuring of Atomic Energy Power Corporation in order to improve its efficiency. The consolidation of design institutes on the basis of JSC GSPI is implemented with the view to develop design trend in nuclear military complex, nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear and radiation safety and industrial science, and also mastering new capacities and reinforcing positions in the out-of-the-industry design market. The establishment of the new company is starting in November 2009.

According to JSC Atomenergoprom’s Executive Director Kirill Komarov “the united company being established will allow for improving management system in survey and design, developing new trends of activity, entering new commodity markets, and enlarging current backlog. In this case all unique best practices of certain enterprises and their qualified personnel are retained”.

JSC State Specialized Design Institute (JSC GSPI) is a 100% daughter enterprise of JSC Atomenergoprom. It was established in 1948 in order to set up a project for producing plutonium metal and products made out of it, products made out of enriched uranium, and to develop tritium production. As per the Institute’s designs production of uranium and its compounds, calcium, beryllium, zirconium, lithium and its compounds was commissioned. Fuel rods and fuel assemblies’ production was developed in Elektrostal and Novosibirsk. Design and standardization of gyroscope navigation systems for ballistic missiles was carried out. Pharmaceutical drugs production and industrial scientific centers, among them are the Kurchatov Institute, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, the Institute of  High Energy Physics (Protvino), Institute of Physics and Power Engineering (Obninsk) and Institute for Nuclear research, etc.

JSC Novosibirsky Design and Survey Institute VNIPIET (OJSC Novosibirsky VNIPIET) is a 100% affiliate of JSC Atomenergoprom. It was establisher in 1955 as JSC GSPI’s branch in Siberia. The Institute carried out design works for chemical and metallurgical plant in Krasnoyarsk, facilities at the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant, provided design for plant extension for producing uranium hexafluoride at OJSC SCC, and reconstruction of uranium production in Ust-Kamenogorsk. It also provided design for hydrometallurgical uranium ore processing plant at Tselinny  MCC (Kazakhstan), extension of Novosibirsk Himapparat (chemical equipments) Plant, facilities for decontamination and disposal of radioactive waste from Kursk, Chernobyl and Ignalina NPPs. The Institute also provided design for Siberian facilities of the USSR AS (Academy of Sciences), East-Siberian branch of the USR AS, scientific center of the Siberian branch of VASKhNIL (Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences).

JSC Uralsky Design and Survey Institute VNIPIET (JSC UPII VNIPIET) is JSC Atomenergoprom’s 100% affiliate. It was founded in 1947 in order to conduct design and survey work for building Mayak Production Association (PA). The company was general designer for such closed territorial-administrative facilities as Ozersk, Snezhinsk, Novouralsk, Lesnoy, and Trehgorny. The main design trends are NFC facilities and enterprises, namely Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FSUE ) PA Mayak, FSUE UECC, FSUE Radon, also NWC buildings and constructions, namely FSUE Mayak, FSUE Russian Federal Nuclear Center - The All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC - VNIIEF), FSUE Elektrokhimpribor, FSUE PSZ (“Priborostroitelny Zavod” – Instrument-Making Plant).

JSC Krasnoyarsky Design and Survey Institute VNIPIET (JSC KPII VNIIPIET) is JSC Atomenergoprom’s 100% affiliate. It was established in 1952 as Leningrad State Design Institute’s affiliate in order to design D-type plants and separate chemical works, and to conduct complex design for industrial construction sites located in Central Siberia. Closed territorial-administrative facilities Zheleznogorsk, Zelenogorsk and Nizhnyaya Tura, and a number of unique facilities at FSUE MCC and PI Electrochemical Plant were built based on the Institute’s designs.
