The General Director of Rosseti, Oleg Budargin, attended a meeting of the Executive Assembly of the World Energy Council (WEC), held on Wednesday, October 22, in the city of Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), in the framework of The World Energy Leaders’ Summit.
Elected last year as Vice Chair, Regional Development, WEC, the head of Rosseti presented an interim report on the activities of the WEC Eurasian Committee.
In particular, during the meeting Oleg Budargin elaborated on the work done in 2014 to establish National Committees of the WEC in the CIS, and also talked about other projects implemented with the support of Rosseti in the context of strengthening international partnership. The meeting participants approved the report and Development Strategy of this vision unanimously.
The World Energy Leaders’ Summit, traditionally held twice a year under the auspices of the WEC, was held in Colombia and attended by more than 600 delegates from more than 100 countries, including 20 energy ministers of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the leaders of the world's largest energy companies and representatives of the energy community.
Opening the summit, Secretary General of the WEC - Christoph Frei - stressed that the meeting held in Cartagena was taking place at a crucial moment for the global energy sector. According to him, the summit would involve discussions of topics of great interest and relevance not only in terms of the development of a dialogue on regional energy integration of Latin American countries, but also for all Member States to the WEC as a whole.
During the meeting of the Executive Assembly, a vote was taken on the choice of venue for the upcoming 24th World Energy Congress, in 2019. The choice was - the city of Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), which exceeded the number of votes received by Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
The World Energy Leaders’ Summit will last until October 24. On Thursday, the plenary sessions will continue discussing the global energy ‘trilemma’, as well as issues regarding regional integration. In addition, the participants will hear the address by the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos.
