Gazprom delegation visits Japan

Today a Gazprom delegation chaired by Alexander Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee has paid a working visit to Japan.

Within the visit new Sakhalin Energy top management met companies buying LNG for the Sakhalin-2 project.

Present at the meeting were representatives of the companies signed long-term contracts with Sakhalin Energy, particularly Tokyo Electric, Tokyo Gas, Shell Eastern, Tohoku Electric, Chubu Electric, Toho Gas, Osaka Gas, Hiroshima Gas, Kyushu Electric and Saibu Gas as well as representatives of the business community, shipping companies and technological equipment producers.

The participants discussed further prospects for mutual cooperation development of the companies in the frames of the Sakhalin-2 project.

“The Sakhalin-2 project execution will provide secure energy supply to Asia Pacific countries and North America. This inter alia will enable Gazprom to hold firm positions in the global LNG market,” said Alexander Ananenkov.

Additionally, Alexander Medvedev met with Harufumi Mochizuli, Director-General of Agency for Natural Resources and Energy for the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). The parties discussed the progress with execution of the Framework Agreement of cooperation between Gazprom and Agency for Natural Resources and Energy.

On April 18, 2007 Gazprom and shareholders of Sakhalin Energy (Royal Dutch Shell plc, Mitsui & Co. Ltd and Mitsubishi Corporation), where Sakhalin Energy is the Sakhalin-2 project operator, signed the Purchase and Sale Agreement stipulating Gazprom acquisition of a 50 per cent plus one share stake in Sakhalin Energy.
