September 2, 2009, Moscow. COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (JSC COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading supplier of integrated telecommunication solutions in Russia and the CIS, announces a reduced cost of modem that is used to provide wireless high-speed Internet access based on mobile WIMAX. From September 1, a suite of WiMAX subscriber equipment costs 490 rubles, while in July and August 2009 WiMAX modem cost 1,990 rubles.

WiMAX suite is a product box that includes a USB WiMAX modem COMSTAR 2501, installation disk and connection guide. When purchasing this suite, users have to subscribe to any applicable price plan. They may subscribe to mobile Internet and buy WiMAX modems from their home or in STREAM sales and service offices.

Alexander Gorbunov, COMSTAR-UTS Vice President for Strategy and Development, says: “Initially, we have assumed that COMSTAR-UTS wireless broadband service based on mobile WiMAX is targeted at the mass market. We have elaborated customer connection and service procedures. Today, a price plan with a fee of 300 rubles is in the highest demand. So, optimal cost of the “admission ticket” shall not exceed 500 rubles.”
