Barcelona-Dakar 2005 turned out to be the hardest and the most dramatic in the history of this rally-raid.
Vladimir Tchaguine won the final rally stage of 31 km length along the Atlantic cost, whereas Firdaus Kabirov piloting KAMAZ-4911 EXTREME became the winner of the whole rally. So the African rally champions’ names are Firdaus Kabirov, Andrei Mokeev, Aydar Belyaev who spent 70 hours, 45 minutes, 58 seconds to cover 4 655 km of special off-road distance – the 1st place; Yoshimasa Sugawara and Hamura Katsumi – the team from Japan piloting HINO spent 77 hours, 18 minutes, 14 seconds and took the 2nd place; Giacomo Vismara, Cludio Bellina, Mario Cambiaghi - the team from Italy piloting Mercedes spent 77 hours and was the 3d.
This two week rally showed that KAMAZ trucks proved to be the best combination of maximal speed and reliable units perfectly operating on off-roads. It is the most important peculiarity of this type of vehicle, which actually has brought KAMAZ-master team to success.
114 motorcycles, 75 cars, 37 trucks took part in Barcelona-Dakar 2005 final stage. All these crews participated in the closing vehicle show - a column of vehicle, which came to finish, drove along the Atlantic cost.
