Moscow, 3 May 2006. In the four months of 2006, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" increased generation of electricity year-on-year by 5.4% to 255.1 billion kWh from 242 billion kWh. During the period under review, energy consumption across Russia totalled 349.5 billion kWh, an increase of 4.2% on 335.3 billion kWh in the same period of 2005.

In the first four months of 2006, the output of the thermal power plants (TPPs) of RAO "UES of Russia" amounted to 220 billion kWh, up 9.2% over the same period last year, while the hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) generated 35.1 billion kWh, down 13.6% in year-on-year terms, which was due to lower water inflow levels at the reservoirs of some HPPs in the European part of Russia.

According to the most recent updates, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" generated 56.7 billion kWh of electricity in April 2006, which is 4.6% higher than the same period last year. During the month, the hydropower plants of RAO "UES of Russia" generated 9.1 billion kWh, while the Company's thermal power plants produced 47.6 billion kWh. Electricity consumption in the country grew 3.9% in April 2006 to 78.2 billion kWh from 75.3 billion kWh.
