North-West Telecom has summed up the results of implementing the programme of providing telecommunication services to residents of St. Petersburg for the years 2005-2007 in the year 2005

In 2005 about 187,000 lines were put into operation in St. Petersburg in the framework of the investment programme of OJSC North-West Telecom, 119,000 lines of which were numbers for replacement of outdated equipment.  Thus, in 2005, the installed line capacity of the PTN branch increased by 32,000 telephone lines.  As of 1st January 2006 the total installed capacity of the St. Petersburg's telephone network was more than 2,167,000 numbers, while the digitalization level reached 46%.   The total number of the subscribers, to whom the branch provides services, is 1,914,000.

In 2005 the Ministry of Informatization and Communication of Russia and the Government of St. Petersburg have approved  OJSC North-West Telecom’s Programme for Providing Telecommunication Services to Residents of St. Petersburg for the years 2005-2007. 56,700 such applications had been registered by 1st January 2005.   As a result of implementing the provisions of the Programme, 49,000 applications registered before 01.01.2005 were satisfied in 2005.   The rest, 7,700 applications will be satisfied in 2006.  All in all, taking into account applications from citizens, received by the PTN branch in 2005, more than 73,700 applications were satisfied. 

In 2005 additional equipping and construction of the telephone network was carried out in such districts of the city, where there had been no number or line capacity for a long time, and in the settlements of Novo-Devyatkino, Shushary, Lenino, Bugry, Krasavitsa, Krasnoye Selo, Gorelovo, Strelna, the town of Lomonosov and its suburbs.  Equipment for providing telephone communication to houses in the settlement of Solnechnoye was installed. 

During preparation for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Victory in World War II, the programme of providing telecommunication services to veterans and the disabled of WWII and equal privileged categories of citizens was fulfilled completely.      Access to the telephone network was provided to 855 veterans and disabled participants of WWII. 

In June 2005 the Petersburg Telephone Network branch of OJSC North-West Telecom introduced the seventh million zone.   Subscribers' telephone numbers were switched over to the seventh million zone on the basis of the resolution of the RF Government No. 894 dated 31.12.04  for the purpose of subsequent introduction of a single number for calls to emergency services with the 112 index throughout Russia.  

To improve clients' servicing quality, 28 Clients' Servicing Centers were established to provide comprehensive solution of issues related to the provision of telecommunication and information services.      

In 2005 the PTN branch of OJSC NWT expanded the modem pools of dial-up access.   The total capacity of PTN's modem pool increased by 1 560 and amounted to 6 180 lines.

In December 2005 North-West Telecom started implementing a programme of entering the mass market of broadband access to the Internet using the ADSL technology in St. Petersburg.    In 2006 NWT is planning to install 74,000 ADSL ports, 50,000 of which will be introduced in St. Petersburg.  The company provides for rate plans for various speeds: 64, 128, 256 and 512 Kbit/s. All rate plans are without any restrictions of traffic volumes.
