MMK takes part in the Federal Programme "Electronic Russia"

Last November the Russian Federal Agency for Information Technologies summed up the results of an open contest which had been held in the framework of the Federal Programme "Electronic Russia" under the title "Development of a Concept of IT-Based Interaction between State Authorities and Local Self-Government Bodies with System-Forming Industrial Enterprises".
The contest was won by the company OOO Cognitive Technologies, which was followed by a contract between the winner and MMK in the framework of a tri-lateral project with the participation of the Russian Ministry of Informatization and Communication. In the course of the implementation of the project OOO Cognitive Technologies and OOO Ernst & Young Business Consulting will investigate various possible ways of electronic interaction between state bodies and industrial enterprises. A system of criteria will be worked out for selecting and ranking the top priority spheres of interaction between system- and city-forming enterprises and the government bodies which will permit to select the most important spheres to maximize the effect of the IT's application. Experts from the above companies will assist MMK in choosing the most effective and promising project within the Federal Programme and in setting up the methodological basis of the project. The fact that such a renowned company as Ernst & Young is involved in the project, attests to the seriousness of intentions of the participants in the project. All work should be completed in one stage by the end of next February. The contract value is RUR 6.45 million and it is to be co-financed by the Ministry of Informatization and Communication.
The choice of MMK as a pilot enterprise in this project is not accidental. MMK is one of the country's largest city-forming enterprises. Furthermore, MMK expressed its interest in participating in the projects within the Electronic Russia Programme on the co-financing basis. A short while ago Victor Rashnikov, MMK's General Director, met in Moscow with the Minister of Informatization and Communication Leonid Reiman and discussed with him the prospect of cooperation between Russia's largest steel making company and the ministry in the implementation of the Electronic Russia projects. MMK's experience in this sphere will later be used for organizing this type of interaction country-wide. Federal government is also interested in this experience as it will mark the beginning of the practical application of the Federal Programme on the basis of cooperation with the country's major industrial enterprises.
Today MMK's IT practice is the best in the industry. Magnitka was the first to start setting up an integrated corporate information management system based on Oracle software, rather than focusing on its use in isolated Company divisions.
