Last year, IDGC of Volga, PJSC (subsidiary of Rosseti, PJSC) pursued its campaign of preventive checkup of the electric grid equipment using thermal cameras. The inspectors checked about 15 thousand units of electric grid equipment over a year, including 714 units at 35–110 kV substations; 13,115 units at 6–10 kV transformer substations; and 972 units at overhead power transmission lines. In addition to power transformers, the campaign covered shunt reactors, voltage and current transformers, high voltage bushings, circuit breakers, switches and surge arresters. All equipment mismatching the requirements of the technical standards and regulations (TSR) was brought in line with the standards or replaced. Thermal cameras allow for accurate inspection of the electric grid equipment without any shutdown and interruption of power supplies to consumers. The measurement data contribute to timely detection of any deviations from TSR, effective planning and performance of the repair.
